IN THE STUDIO.....

As you may or may not know, we have been devoting our spare time recording original material with hopes of eventually compiling a full length CD. When finished, I believe this project will prove to be very musically diverse. (It may not be pleasing, but it will be diverse!!!) Keep in mind that we have no aspirations of becoming rich and famous, and this project is merely a personal conquest. It is truly amazing how many hours it takes to completely master a three minute song. This page will keep you up to date with our progress in the studio and provide insight into our musical journey. (FYI-the picture above is not real, but is meant to bring about some humor)

Songs, Etc....

"WHERE YOU BELONG"- This song had been kicking around in Richard's head for a long time. In late 1997, he went into a small home studio in Gouverneur, had a few home brews and finally laid the music down on tape. The guitar sound is a classic Strat through a Mashall "Plexi" into a miked Marshall 4x12 cabinet. He wrote the lyrics on the spot in the studio. It is a powerful ballad that sumed up his feelings at that particular time of his life. It leans a little bit toward the dark side. We used to play this song live at our gigs and it always went over well. We never did let anyone know it was an original! This song can be heard from our front page. Keep in mind though, the musical quality allowed on MP3.com is not the greatest, so the song is not exactly true to form.

"C.DIK ROK"- This song is our first collaborative effort. The musical idea for this song was originally laid down on a four track in April of 1999. We slowed the tempo down, extended the verse section and digitally re-recorded the music in our own Cellarwall Studio in Gouverneur over several sessions in early 2001. Being our first effort in the studio, it proved to be a valuable learning experience. The music was by no means perfect, but we decided to leave it as is was. The song contains some of our favorite musical ingredients: distortion, guitar leads, and minor third harmonies. We had some lyric ideas for the song, but nothing concrete. One night while driving home from practice, the idea about the classic Dick and Jane children's story with a twist popped into Tim's head. The basic lyrics were written down on the back of a gas receipt. We collaboratively worked with the lyrics and edited them to fit the song. Rich, Drew and Bob laid the vocal tracks down in one night. Several mixes of the song were compiled, the best one chosen, and burned to CD. This song can also be heard from our front page, but because of the musical quality allowed on MP3.com, it is not exactly true to form. A felt tipped pen, 5 straight lines, dotted eyes and a circle's all it took!

"BLACK"- The musical idea for this song was originally laid down on a four track in March of 1998. Upon completion of "C.DIK ROK" we were ready to move on to something else. Being that we had the basic foundation, we worked with the song, edited it from it's original state and digitally re-recorded the music in our Cellarwall Studio in Gouverneur over several sessions in May/June of 2001. Because the music was recorded over several session, we had to identify it on disc so it could be re-called later. Drew thought it sounded "Black" so that is how it was labelled on disc. After several months of toil and tribulation, the lyrics were finally written. Once the lyrics were written, it seemed we could not coordinate our schedules to lay the vocals down. In March of 2002, Drew took a vacation South and this song was finally completed in a home studio in Georgia. This song was a collaborative effort to complete. The vocals were sung by Timothy J. Carosi, Tom Mason added a few final drum fills. This song was written from the ground up by Tim Logan. From the music to the lyrics. Most of the performances on the track were done by Tim, with the rhythm tracks being programmed by Drew. Both Tim and Drew gained the experience of the engineering, production, and arrangement duties. The song is completed, and is available for listening from our front page.

"DARKSIDE"-The music and lyrics for this song are complete. Hey, Tim is on a roll, give him lots of credit! Those who have heard the song say you can hear a strong VanHalen influence. (I wonder why?) The song is about Ogdensburg's Home of Rock-n-Roll, which in our opinion has always been the best bar in the country to play. We have a few surprize "samples" to add, and we will be mixing it down soon. With any luck, this song will be completed and posted within a couple of weeks.

"Strange Days" -Although this is not a "Full Effect" project, Drew contributed on this track. You'll find it listed under the "ReUnion Jack" label on our MP3.com site, as that was/is the name of the band involving these guys. You can also get there from the link on our main page. It could be said that it is a community project as it involves past band mates of Rich, Bob, and Drew, all members of ReUnion Jack It is available now. Tim Carosi wrote the basic song including the lyics, with Tom Mason handling the bulk of the engineering, production, and arrangement. Drew contributed with performances and some arrangment and engineering duties also. There are more tunes in the works, so look for them as time goes by.

"Harriett Kissed Me" - This is the newest offering from "ReUnion Jack". It's packed full of contributions. Drew, Tim, and Rich all added parts to this one, with Tim and Rich adding some very tasty guitar parts. It's a very basic song, but it was meant to be just that. Again, Tim Carosi wrote the basic song including the lyics, with Tom Mason handling the bulk of the engineering, production, arrangement, as well as the drum tracks. Parts of this song were recorded both here in Gouverneur at Cellarwall Productions, and in Atlanta at Laurel Oak Studios. This should be available on MP3.com by 12/01/02, and you can check it out from the "ReUnion Jack" link on our main page. Let us know what you think!

"Anguish Cry" -The "scratch" guitar tracks for this song idea have been recorded. On Thanksgiving Eve, Tim and Drew got together to formulate some ideas for drums and bass. There are some basic lyrics for the song, but they will likely be changed when recording time comes. We will be coordinating schedules and laying the vocals down in the near future.

"RASH(P28B)"-The idea for this song has been around since about 1995. In fact, in 1997 we put this together and played it out live as an instrumental piece, but it was always envisioned to have lyrics. Well after several years the music for this song has finally been recorded. The feel has been changed a bit from the instrumental version, and hopefully we can put lyrics to it soon. The name (for reference only) will be changed in time. Another learning experience during the recording process-Stereo guitars!!! The guitar parts are usually double tracked to fatten them up, which is cool because it adds a natural chorus effect, but on this one the guitar parts were recorded in stereo. No need for Guitar ENSURE on this song!!! Now for the fun part-writing lyrics. Check back often for progress on this one.

"FOR JESSIE"-The guitar parts for this song were written in 1996. The song has special meaning, as it was written to capture the feelings of a very memorable experience at the time. Several attempts were made over the years to record the song, but the right "sound" could never be captured. With the advent of modern technology, some string, keyboard, drum and bass tracks were added, and the song was finally recorded in March of 2003. This song is very lighthearted, and unlike anything we have recorded to date. Vocals will be written soon.

"DROPPED OUT"-This song was recorded in March of 2002. It began as merely an expirement to learn how to use the digital workstation. The rhythm and lead parts were written on the spot and recorded in one take. The original drum track was very basic, out-of-time, and sans "click track". The song sounded pretty cool, so in April of 2003 Drew took the song to his studio, played a "real drum" part and added a bass line. Believe me, this was no easy task because the song did not follow any steady tempo. The music is now complete and ready for vocals.

Check back often, as many more musical ideas are lurking about!!!! Till next time.
